Violet Suggs Smith

(DELTA) Funeral services for Violet Suggs Smith, 91, of Delta will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with the Revs. Mark Williams and Ronnie Key officiating. Burial will follow in Center West Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Aug. 22, at her home.

She was a native of Anniston and early on had lived in Clay County for several years. In 1958, she moved with her family to Marietta, Ga., where she enjoyed working as a quality control inspector for the Lovable Company in Buford. Mrs. Smith returned to Clay County following the death of her husband in 1997. She loved taking care of her family, enjoyed baking peanut butter cakes for her grandchildren and was a member of Center West Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters and their husbands Barbara Smith Bell and Bobby and Vivian S. Lyle and Jim, all of Delta; one son, Lenwerd Wayne Smith and wife Linda of Monticello, Ga.; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, McDonald Suggs and Bessie Wright Suggs; her husband of 65 years, Lenwerd B. Smith; four sisters, Emogene Turner, Louise Holland, Jett Patton and Florence Suggs; and hree brothers: Jack Suggs, Norman Suggs and Douglas Suggs.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s grandsons, Andrew Moore, Blakely Moore, David Moore, Will Moore, Garrett Reaves, Brett Smith and Durand Smith.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 12:30-2 p.m.
