Lighthouse Soup Kitchen opens Wedowee location

Beginning this week, The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen will open a satellite location in Wedowee on a trial basis.

“We have known that the need was there ever since we opened our kitchen in Roanoke, and our goal has been to see it accomplished,” Linda Hurst said. She is director of the program in Roanoke.

Every Thursday night volunteers will provide the soup from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barge Center for Learning located next to the Hub Restaurant in Wedowee.

She stressed this is a trial period. At the end of three months “we are going to look at the results and work on making it permanent, operating the same as we do in Roanoke.”

Volunteers from the Wedowee area are needed to help with this mission. Pastors and mission leaders from the area churches who would like to help are asked to call  Linda Hurst at 334-646-2731 or e-mail her at [email protected].

“We have 16 teams at our Roanoke location, which enables our teams to have to prepare and serve soup only once every 16 weeks. The more volunteers we have the better we can serve our community and accomplish God’s work,” Hurst said.
