Downtown volunteer work continues
Nine people showed up Saturday to complete the work at the pocket park on the First Baptist Church lot at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street. Ralph Jones and Bruce Brownlee worked several days preparing the soil for the group to plant the Dwarf Nandinas, Snowball Spirea, Gold Mound Spirea, Indian Hawthorne and Daylilies. They also planted two Natchez Crape Myrtles and two Muskogee Crape Myrtles, white and lavender respectively, along Church Street.
Rotarians have taken on the Randolph County Historical Museum as a project. Project chairman Bruce Brownlee said, “The weather was warmer than expected. We ran into an unexpected number of roots from the old shrubbery, which slowed things down. Master gardeners Ralph and Diana Jones designed an outstanding landscape plan and purchased the plants. We had a good turnout of workers. Some organized materials inside the museum while others worked on the landscaping.”
The museum had about 15 people working each Saturday.
