County gets grant for drug dog
The Randolph County Commission will receive a $7,950 grant for the purchase of a drug dog for use by the Randolph County Narcotics Unit and other area law enforcement agencies.
The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Justice and is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. In making the announcement Gov. Bob Riley said this is among $1.86 million being awarded statewide to combat illegal drugs and drug-related violent crime in Alabama.
The funding will support a number of multi-jurisdictional drug and violent crime task forces and a criminal information clearinghouse. The task forces conduct undercover operations to arrest and prosecute drug offenders, find and dismantle dangerous methamphetamine laboratories and assist with other violent crime investigations.
Among the larger recipients of the funds is Chambers County, which will receive $128,832 for its county
Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force. The largest amount—$320,000 will go to Talladega County for its Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.
