County school board OKs personnel changes

WEDOWEE—A new assistant principal for Woodland, a new counselor at Wadley and a new band director at Randolph County High were just some of the personnel items approved at the June meeting of Randolph County Board of Education on Thursday evening of last week.

In personnel matters, the board approved:

€ Jeff Thompson as half-time assistant principal/half-time teacher at Woodland High School.

€ Richard Parmer as social science teacher at Woodland.

€ Kathryn Jackson as English/language arts teacher at Woodland.

€ Cheryl Weathington as special education teacher at Woodland.

€ Chad Whitmore as summer custodian at Woodland. The request was for 320 hours at $9

€ Adrian Peters as band director at Randolph County High School.

€ Kevin England as science teacher at RCHS.

€ The transfer of Richard Coleman from math teacher for grades 7-8 to P.E. teacher for grades 7-12.

€ Transfer of Kristin Till from 10th-grade biology to 7th- and 8th-grade general science.

€ Transfer of Jackie Spratlin from RCHS 7th- and 8th-grade science to WMS and RCHS P.E.

€ Peggy Milam as child nutrition worker (head cook) at RCHS.

€ Accepted the resignation due to retirement of Mary Jane Houston from the RCHS lunchroom at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

€ Albert Lee Holloway as summer custodian at RCHS. The request was for 320 hours at $9 per hour.

€ Retha Murphy as multi-disability teacher at Wedowee Middle School.

€ Jerolyn Holsemback as summer custodian at WMS. The request was for 160 hours at $9 per hour.

€ Martha Bailey as special education teacher at Wadley High School.

€ Donna McKay as counselor at Wadley.

€ LaDae Battle as summer custodian at Wadley. The request was for 320 hours at $9 per hour.

€ Tammy White as secretary/bookkeeper at Randolph-Roanoke Career Technology Center.

€ Debbie Cast as summer custodian at RRCTC. The request was for 320 hours at $9 per hour.

€ Contracting with Lynda Fincher to help train the secretary/bookkeeper at RRCTC at $100 per day. The contract will be for two days per week from July 27-Sept. 30.

€ Mary Wilkins as summer custodian at Rock Mills Junior High School. The request was for 160 hours at $9 per hour.

In other business, the board:

€ approved changes to the Student Code of Conduct. Some of the changes discussed at the meeting were the charging of school lunches near the end of the school year and the order in which math classes are taken.

€ approved paying two child nutrition workers from each school a $75 stipend per day for a total of two days each to attend training on the new menus and nutrition inventory management computer software that will now be used in the lunchrooms.

€ approved the bid from Modern Heating & Air for the HVAC for gyms at Woodland High School. Gay said the money for this is from funds acquired from Rep. Richard Laird and Sen. Kim Benefield.

€ approved the bid for the placement of canopies at RCHS, Wadley and Woodland.

€ approved changes to the child nutrition worker (cook) job description.

€ approved changes to the child nutrition worker (head cook) job description.

€ approved changes to the child nutrition manager job description.

€ approved travel expenses.
