Two Roanoke women killed in Auburn accident

AUBURN—Two young women from Roanoke were killed Saturday afternoon in an automobile accident on Interstate 85 in Auburn.

According to reports, Dana McFarland, 33, and Kenneka Houston, 25, were riding in the back seat of a vehicle when it stalled. A pickup truck that came up behind them was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the vehicle.

The accident happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the southbound lane.

The car’s driver, Sabrina Sutton, 28, and front-seat passenger, Ayonna Sutton, 26, both of Roanoke, were taken to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt.

Funeral services for McFarland will be handled by Silmon/Seroyer Funeral Home in LaFayette and were incomplete at press time.

Houston’s services will be by Clark Memorial Funeral Services of Roanoke. Her funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Riley Street, with visitation on Thursday.

County Road 63

A Woodland man was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Sunday evening.

According to Randolph County E-911, the accident happened at approximately 6:27 p.m. on County Road 63.

Southern Ambulance Transport, Woodland VFD, New Hope VFD, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and State Troopers.

According to the Trooper post, the injured driver was William Smith, and he was driving a 1984 Dodge.

County Road 59

A Newell woman and two pre-teens were injured in a two-vehicle accident on County Road 59 Monday night.

According to Randolph County E-911, the accident happened at approximately 8:33 p.m. Responders included Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Southern Ambulance Transport, State Troopers, and Newell and Woodland volunteer fire departments.

According to the State Troopers, the driver of the first vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet, was Leo Gutierres of Heflin, and he was not injured.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Ford, was 39-year-old Valerie Green of Newell. Green and her passengers, 12-year-old Toni Maner and Kayla Bennett, were all injured.
