Sandra Bledsoe Ware
(ROANOKE) Sandra Bledsoe Ware, 53, of Roanoke died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
Services will be at First Missionary Baptist Church, 549 Riley Street, Roanoke on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at noon, with the Rev. Gregory Sutton officiating. Interment will be at Skyview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Welch. The remains will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Five Points.
Mrs. Ware was born June 16, 1955, in Chambers County to Mayor Geneva Bledsoe and the late Randolph Bledsoe. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Five Points, where she served over the years as a Christian education leader, Sunday school teacher, church clerk, financial secretary, choir member and matron president.
Mrs. Ware, affectionately known as San, graduated in 1973 from Five Points High School and Alabama A&M University in Huntsville in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in special education. She pursued further studies towards her master’s in education at Jacksonville State University. She taught at Wedowee Middle School in the multiple disabilities classroom until she retired in 2006.
Upon her retirement from Randolph County Schools, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of opening San’s ABC/123 Academy – a licensed daycare facility. Mrs. Ware was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Retired Teachers Association and Alabama Democratic Conference. She was active with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and with the Handley High School Band Boosters.
Mrs. Ware was preceded in death by her husband, Eddy Ware.
Mrs. Ware is survived by two sons, Jamal Ware of Huntsville and JaJuan Ware of Roanoke; her mother, Mayor Geneva Bledsoe of Five Points; her sister, Wanda Smith of Gadsden; two extended sisters, Jackie Reid of Lanett and Vicky Wright of Valdosta, Ga.; one uncle; one aunt; her mother-in-law, Ernestine Ware of Roanoke; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
