Bethel East woman charged with chemical endangerment of children

A Bethel East woman was arrested in Carrollton Monday of last week and charged with chemical endangerment of a child.

According to David Cofield of Randolph County Narcotics Unit, officers had been searching for Brittany Leigh Martin, 24, of 1570 County Rd. 112, Woodland, because of an August 2007 grand jury indictment for chemical endangerment of a child. A child of less than a year old had tested positive for cocaine.

Martin was caught when she gave birth to another child over the weekend at a Carrollton hospital and that baby also tested positive for cocaine. Charges on behalf of the newborn infant will come from a Georgia law enforcement agency, said Cofield.
