Wesley O’Neal Stillwell

(DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.) Wesley O’Neal Stillwell, 75, of Douglasville, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Wellstar Douglas Hospital.

He was born Sept. 1, 1933, in LaGrange, Ga., the son of the late Robert Wesley Stillwell and the late Edna Landers Stillwell. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as technical sergeant with more than 20 years of service to his country. He married Inge Scherbaum on Jan. 27, 1959, in Germany. He later retired from Delta Airlines as a mechanic. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” because of his skills of building and repairing. He loved to travel, was an avid reader and loved to play golf and throw horseshoes. He was the family historian enjoying genealogy research. Mr. Stillwell was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10798, where he served as commander for many years and was a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Morrison.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Inge Scherbaum Stillwell of Douglasville; daughter, Christina Stillwell of Douglasville; sons, Charles Dennis Stillwell of Stockholm, Sweden and Wesley James Stillwell of California; sisters, Mary Boatner of Goodwater, Ala., Louise Smith of Heflin, Ala., and Jane Yates of Lake Wedowee; brothers, W.F. Stillwell of Graham, Ala.; and John Henry and Sandra Stillwell of Temple, Ga.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service plans will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. Stillwell may be made to the Douglas County Animal Shelter Construction, Attention: Communications and Community Relations, 8700 Hospital Dr., Douglasville, GA 30134.
