Jessie Ruth Trammell Rose
(GARY, Ind.) Jessie Ruth Trammell Rose, 83, of Gary, Ind., died Thursday, May 22, 2008.
She was born Nov. 21, 1924 in Roanoke. She graduated from Randolph County Training School and Alabama State University, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the baccalaureate address as she received her bachelor’s degree in education. After teaching at RCTS in Roanoke, she moved to Gary in 1955 and taught first and sixth grades at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School and received a master’s degree from Indiana
State University. She retired from teaching after 37 years. She was an active member of Delaney Methodist Church, now Christ United Methodist Church, which she served in the missionary society and choir.
Mrs. Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Rose; and her mother, Beulah Trammell. Survivors include a son, Merrill Douglas Lattimore of Gary; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; and special friends including Texanna Royston of Roanoke.
