Player profile: Randolph County’s Robert Jeter
Youth seems to be the name of the game for the Randolph County Tigers football team. Fortunately for the Tigers, there are a handful of senior leaders on the team.
One of those senior leaders is Robert Jeter.
Jeter believes it’s best to lead by example. Whether that’s on the field on Fridays, work at Dollar General on Saturdays or at church on Sundays, Jeter is an example to his younger teammates.
The Randolph Leader: How big was that win over Woodland for your team?
Robert Jeter: It was very big, you know what I’m saying. There was a whole lot of intensity going on. Everybody was down there and we played to perfection. We thank God and our coaches for that.
RL: Explain what it’s like trying to be a role model for the younger guys on your team.
RJ: It’s kind of hard because they’re all real young. They’re not really used to playing at a varsity level. We’ve got a small senior class so it’s kind of hard. When you lead though, they’ll learn to step up with you.
RL: What were the goals for the team coming into the season, especially for yourself?
RJ: I was just hoping we would all come together and get to the playoffs and beat Woodland. Those were some of my biggest goals, you know. That and being a leader for the rest of the team.
RL: What kind of stuff do you do in your spare time?
RJ: Work and go to church and do stuff like any ordinary person.
RL: Explain what it feels like to be a winner in a situation like with your team and Woodland, being right next door to each other.
RJ: It feels good because you know we’re all kind of close friends. But in the game we just have fun and sometimes we get a little riled up. I might brag a little bit, but it’s just to have fun.
RL: Is that group of seniors on your team a close-knit group?
RJ: We’re all close friends. Some of us, we don’t really lead like we should sometimes, but some of us step up. The junior class helps us a lot. When we get ready to play, we play.
RL: What are you going to do to continue playing with that intensity the rest of the season?
RJ: We’ve just got to keep on leading and get in church. Just got to keep on leading.
