Doyle Gay New

(NEWELL) Services for Doyle Gay New, 73, of Newell, will be Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Craft and the Rev. Eugene Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. New died Monday, Dec. 11, at his home.

Mr. New is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lena Craven New; one son, Donald New of Covington, Ga.; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Polly Logan of Riverside and Lillie New, Willene Horn and Ann New of Wedowee; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dobson Mathis, David Wesson, Neal Pinkard, Jacob Harper, Alvis Mitchell and Delmar Hanners. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Huddleston, Herman Akins, Larry Smith, Eddie Cofield, James Pettus, Lawrence Buckhanna, Jeff Houston, Billy Cofield and Wayne Huddleston.

Mr. New was born Aug. 26, 1933, son of Jessie and Amzie Daniel New. he was a member of Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church and had been a heavy equipment operator for Randolph County. Mr. New served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
