Lady ‘Cats among 16 left in 2A volleyball

The Woodland Lady Bobcats are one of 16 teams left in class 2A volleyball.

Woodland advanced to regional play on Saturday as the Area 8 champion. There they defeated Winterboro 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 in the first match, which guaranteed they would advance to the sub-state round.

After dropping three straight games to third-ranked Holy Spirit, the Lady Bobcats’ final match was against American Christian. After four games the best-of-five match was tied, but Woodland pulled through in the deciding game by a 15-13 score.

Coach Karen Beverly said, “The girls played very well, and we are looking forward to playing Leroy Thursday at 2 p.m. at Leroy.”

In the Saturday tournament, Courtney Strain had 57 kills, 20 digs, 6 aces and 4 blocks. Morgan Edwards had 20 kills, 23 digs, 11 aces and 2 blocks.
