Grand opening, health fair at Crossroads Clinic is Saturday

In its first two and a half months of operation in the Hollis Crossroads community, Wedowee Hospital’s Crossroads Clinic has seen a steady stream of patients and has established its place in the community. Area residents are invited to help the Wedowee Hospital Network celebrate the successful opening of its fourth rural health clinic during a grand opening celebration at the clinic on Saturday, June 3, from 8 until 11 a.m. The clinic is located next door to Dollar General on Highway 431.

Activities for the day include a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony and a free health fair for the community. The health fair will include blood sugar and cholesterol screenings, colon cancer screenings and vital sign monitoring. Medical professionals will be available to distribute health education materials and answer questions. Participants who are interested in blood sugar and cholesterol screenings should fast after midnight the previous evening to ensure accurate test results.

“Our Crossroads Clinic employees have been amazed by the community’s response to our newest facility. We thought the free health fair would be a good way to show our appreciation for the community support,” explained Farrell Turner, Wedowee Hospital administrator.

Turner noted that as demand increases, he hopes to see the clinic expand its services. He added that Wedowee Hospital, which offers a broad variety of healthcare services, is just a short drive from Hollis. “Convenience and personal service are becoming more and more important to those requiring medical care. Wedowee Hospital Network’s facilities meet both of those needs.”

The Network’s other rural health clinics are located in Wedowee, Woodland and Wadley.
