Woodland opens with sweep of Beulah

BEULAH – The Woodland Bobcats and Lady Bobcats began their season last Tuesday with wins over Beulah.

The girls opened the night with a 47-42 win.

The Lady ‘Cats jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead which had dwindled to three points at 21-18 by halftime.

But they stretched the lead back to ten points at 44-34 by the end of the third quarter and held on for the 5-point win.

Courtney Strain got the season started on the right foot with 28 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Bobcats. Kasey Morris added eight points, eight rebounds and five steals to aid in the victory.

The boys were equally succesful as they too opened up a big lead early and held on for a 58-52 win.

Woodland led by 13 after the first quarter and 11 at halftime before seeing that number cut in the game’s final minutes.

Clay Strain led the charge offensively for Woodland with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Randy Hill added nine points and six boards and Stephen Newell had eight points and nine rebounds.

Both Woodland squads are now 1-0 on the season.

They will continue their schedule this Friday on the road against Bremen.
