Crawford Haynes Calhoun
(WOODLAND) Services for Crawford Haynes Calhoun, 95, of Woodland, will be Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Bethel East Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jimmy Palmer, Ray Runyan, Styles Akins and Brad Horton officiating. Mr. Calhoun will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Calhoun died Saturday, Nov. 26, at Tanner Medical Center of Carrollton, Ga.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee.
Mr. Calhoun is survived by one daughter, Janice Eason of Woodland; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Nell Sikes of Wedowee; a sister-in-law, Annie Maude Calhoun; and a brother-in-law, Floyd French of Roanoke.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of Bethel East Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Randolph County Fire Association members.
Mr. Calhoun was born March 26, 1910, son of Henry L. and Laura Smith Calhoun. He was a member of Bethel East Baptist Church and had been a deacon for over 60 years. He was the caretaker of cemetery for over 30 years. Mr. Calhoun was instrumental in the creation of the Bethel East Fire Department and was chief of the department since 1972. He has been a carpenter and a cattle farmer for many years. Mr. Calhoun had also been a member of the Oddfellows Lodge of Bethel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Taylor Calhoun; one brother, Jessie Calhoun; and three sisters, Ethel Maddox, Bertha French and Lela Gosdin. Flowers will be accepted or donations made to the Bethel East Baptist Church or to the Bethel East Fire Department.
