Tigers trample Pleasant Valley

WEDOWEE – The sixth-ranked RCHS Tigers maintained their steady collision course with the No. 2 Clay County Panthers with a 42-6 win over Pleasant Valley Friday night.

It was the most points the Tigers have scored this year, leading to an easy night for them and a not-so-easy night for their cheerleaders.

The Tigers scored 21 first-quarter points, then rested their starters for the rest of the game with an eye on next week’s matchup, which could determine the region championship.

Tyler Hall threw for 78 yards and two touchdowns on just four pass attempts for the game. Rod Houston scored three touchdowns – one receiving, one on a 47-yard punt return and one on a 75-yard kickoff return – to lead the Tigers to the easy win.

Hall didn’t wait long to stake his Tigers to the lead as he connected with Tremaine Green on a 30-yard strike for six with 10:36 left in the first quarter.

On RCHS’s next possession he hit Houston on a 12-yard scoring pass to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead.

Hall capped the first-quarter scoring blitz by taking matters into his own hands. He broke free for a 50-yard run for a touchdown with 4:41 left in the quarter to put the Tigers up 21-0.

After that the reserves took over, and aptly so.

Quinton Prothro replaced Hall at quarterback and completed four of four passes for 60 yards. He also rushed for an 8-yard touchdown with 10:02 left in the game that proved to be the final score of the night for the Tigers.

Freshman Cortney Hunter led the Tiger rushing attack with 64 yards on 13 carries.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines, the RCHS cheerleaders continued their pushups-forpoints campaign. For every point that the Tigers score the cheerleaders do one pushup. By the time they finished their 42 pushups after Prothro’s fourth-quarter score, they had done a season-high 147 during the course of the game.

The Tigers dominated on defense, holding the Raiders to just four yards rushing and 46 total yards on the night.

Penalties once again harried the Tigers as they amasses a season-high 13 penalties for 110 yards.

They also seem to have found a solution to their extra-point kicking woes as freshman Skyler Lovvorn connected on all six of his point-after attempts.
