Roanoke Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are searching for a bank robber who held up Ft. McClellan Credit Union Tuesday morning.

According to Roanoke Police Chief Adam Melton, the holdup took place at approximately 11 a.m. A white male wearing a green T-shirt and armed with a handgun went into the credit union demanding money. No one was injured in the robbery, and the suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was believed to have been headed behind the credit union.

Officers with Roanoke Police Department, Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, Chambers County Sheriff’s Department and its K-9 officer, the Alabama Department of Public Safety aviation unit, reserves and volunteers descended upon the area around the bank on U.S. 431 North to search for the suspect. The tracking dog searched within a perimeter set up by officers, but the suspect had not been located by late yesterday.

Melton said RPD and the FBI are still gathering evidence. He thanks all the officers, agencies and volunteers for their assistance in the search for the bank robber.
