Hoyt Gay Benefield
(FREDONIA) Retired Sgt. 1st Class Hoyt Gay Benefield, 60, of Fredonia died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Benefield, born Dec. 14, 1945, was born in Randolph County and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Army as a highly decorated sergeant first class, who was very proud to have served his country. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to everyone. He enjoyed farming and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Robertson Benefield; a son, Marvin Benefield of Fredonia; daughters, Connie Nixon and LeAnn Willis of LaGrange; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Kassolyn Wilkerson of Camp Hill, Janice Kendrick of LaFayette, Joanne Hoope of Athens and Tibethia Smith of McComb Miss.; and a brother, Walter Benefield of Alvin, Texas.
Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with the Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery.
