Jerry Edge

(DELTA) Funeral services for Rev. Jerry Edge, 79, of Delta were Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Wedowee with Bro. David Phillips, Bro. Curtis Beculhimer, and Bro. Douglas Ford officiating. Burial followed at Pope’s Chapel Cemetery in St. Clair County.

Rev. Edge died at Regional Medical Center in Anniston on Thursday, Nov. 24.

He was a native of St. Clair County and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1953. Following his honorable discharge, Rev. Edge was employed by the Iron Workers Local #92 in Birmingham. Before coming to Clay County in 1982, he pastored three churches: Reno Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa County, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Bibb County and New Providence Baptist Church in Jefferson County. After moving to Clay County, Rev. Edge pastored New Fellowship Baptist Church, Bowden Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and served as interim pastor of Cragford Baptist Church. He presently attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Wedowee.

Rev. Edge is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary S. Edge of Delta; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Penson Ballard of Tuscaloosa and Renae and Todd Roberts of Ashland; three sons and their wives, Lee and Nancy Edge of Woodstock, Michael and Amy Edge of Ashland and Phillip and Heather Edge of Lineville; two sisters, Betty Payne and Mae Smith, both of Ragland; one brother, Johnny Edge of Hoke’s Bluff; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. Rev. Edge was preceded in death by his parents, E.O. Edge and Edna Irene Blair Edge; one sister, Mary Jo Conway; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were Heath Ballard, Matthew Edge, Jonathan Roberts, Neal Sanders, Austin Smith and Johnny Smith.
