Willodean Daniel Moss

(ROME, Ga.) Willodean Daniel Moss, 77, of Rome, Ga., died Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Mrs. Moss was born on June 13, 1935, in Woodland, Ala., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Daniel. She was married for 53 years to Paul Judson Moss, who died in 2011. She received her B.S. from the University of Georgia and her M.S. and Ed.D. from the University of Kentucky. She taught at North Clayton High School, College Park, and was professor at Midway College, Midway, Ky., and the University of Kentucky, Lexington. She then served as professor at Berry College, where she was head of Family and Consumer Services. She chaired the development of the sixth-year advanced degree in the School of Education. In 1994, she was awarded one of ten awards by the American Home Economics Association as National Leader of the Year. Mrs. Moss was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome, where she taught Sunday school, served on numerous committees and was an ordained deacon.

Survivors include one son, Mark Daniel Moss (Kim Miller) of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Carri Beth Moss Mahar (husband William) of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Amy Lee Moss of Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren; a step-grandson; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jan Wilson of Marietta; and two nieces.

A memorial service will be Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m. EDT at First Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Snider officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Foundation, P.O. Box 1189, Rome, GA 30162-1189 or to the Free Clinic of Rome.
