Woodland volunteer firefighter Adolph Hobbs suffered serious burns as a result of the July 3 accident. The family is currently accepting donations through SAFERAL.org.
Woodland volunteer firefighter Adolph Hobbs continues to receive treatment for severe burns that he suffered as a result of an explosion during the opening minutes of the Woodland Fourth of July fireworks show July 3.
The Woodland Volunteer Fire Department conducts the annual fireworks show, and Hobbs was part of the crew lighting the fireworks when the accident occurred.
According to Woodland mayor Scott Carter, sparks from launched fireworks found their way into a storage box of unused fireworks mortars and ignited the entire box, causing an explosion that engulfed Hobbs who was standing nearby.
Hobbs was wearing his firefighter’s turnout gear and helmet, but still suffered burns to his face, hands and torso.
According to a Monday afternoon update on Facebook by Desarhea Kendall Rogers, Hobbs underwent skin graft surgery Monday morning and continues to progress in his recovery.
Woodland Town Hall is taking donations that will go toward Hobbs’s medical expenses. Donations can also be made online at SAFERAL.org, the website for emergency relief for Alabama firefighters.
