At last week’s meeting of Roanoke City School Board, the board approved a large number of personnel actions for summer school and for the 2025-2026 School Year:
Retirements
• Sheldon Ward as physical education teacher at Handley Middle School.
• John Potts as custodian at Handley High School.
• Timothy Haynes as ISS aide at Handley High School.
• Retirement of Margie Boggs from her position as a bus driver for Roanoke City Schools effective May 31, 2025.
Resignations
• Franca Mignon Burton from her position as special education teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary, effective May 22, 2025.
• Jody Pike from his position as agriscience teacher at Handley High School, effective May 22, 2025.
• Casey Keen from her position as kindergarten teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary, effective May 22, 2025.
• Jessica Horn from her position as 6th grade math teacher at Handley Middle School, effective May 22, 2025.
• Debbie Waller from her position as kindergarten teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary, effective May 22, 2025.
• Haylee Moody from her position as special education aide at Handley Middle School, effective May 22, 2025.
• Amy Burke from her position as school nurse at Knight Enloe Elementary,effective May 19, 2025.

Medical leaves
• Family and medical leave for Amy Burke, Nurse at Knight Enloe Elementary, from April 15, 2025, through May 1, 2025. This leave may vary according to medical necessity.
• Family and medical leave for Linda Crim, Assistant Principal at Knight Enloe Elementary, from June 16, 2025, through August 31, 2025. This leave may vary according to medical necessity.
Summer school staff
KES summer reading and math camp
• To staff, as needed, members of Knight Enloe Elementary School faculty to teach state-required summer reading and math camp from June 9 to June 26 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Certified staff will be paid $40/hour, and Non-Certified staff will be paid $22.50/hour. Bus drivers for field trips and a nurse, as needed, will also be paid. Funding will come from local fund
HMS summer school
• To staff, as needed, members of the Handley Middle School faculty to teach summer school from May 27 – July 1 (6th-8th); May 27 – June 12 (4th and 5th). Students stay until 2:30, teachers until 3:00.
HMS summer math camp
• To staff, as needed, members of the Handley Middle School faculty to teach the state-required Summer Math Camp. The dates and times for summer math camp is from June 16 to July 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., for students and 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for staff.
HHS summer school
• To staff the Summer School Program at HHS from June 3, 2025, through June 29, 2025.
• Certified staff, as needed, will be paid at $40/hour and will run 6 hours/day and 4 days/week. Funding will come from general funds.

Certified English Teacher – to be named later
Certified Science Teacher – to be named later
Certified History Teacher – to be named later
HMS assistant principal summer work hours
Pay Ms. Joi Watts her daily rate of pay for working days during June and July 2025. Funding will come from local funds.
Summer at-risk program
Pay Taylor Jones, Charis Ware, and Keri Zace at the rate of $22.50 per hour for up to 112 hours each to aid with the facilitation and implementation of a summer at-risk program for the 2024-25 summer. Funding will come from a combination of grants, at-risk funds, and local funds.

Superintendent’s report
Superintendent Greg Foster gave the board his report, the final report for this school year.
• HMS collected 123 gallon bags of pop tabs this school year for the Ronald McDonald House of Atlanta. RMHC will recycle these pop tabs to help pay their utilities and continue serving children and their families in their most dire times.
• 6th graders enjoyed their trip to the Coca-Cola Space Science Center! Fun activities included rocket construction, a simulated flight to the International Space Station, and a walk-through of the space history gallery.
• Remember to thank a lunchroom staff member! They are the real heroes of lunch time.
• KES had their 1st Mother-Son Dance, and it was a magical night for all our beautiful moms and handsome boys!
• RCS school leadership teams completed year 2 positive behavior supports training this week. Dr. Robin Ennis has been a tremendous help with this implementation.
• The HMS MTSS team attended the CLAS Banner School Luncheon to accept the award for CLAS School of Distinction for PAWS Assemblies. These assemblies have made a huge impact on students by making them accountable and allowing them to take ownership in their learning and their school.
• RCS presented at the Alabama MTSS showcase. Members from HHS did an outstanding job sharing the remarkable work being done to improve students’ ACT scores.
