At last week’s meeting of Randolph County 911 Board, Director Kelly Edwards gave each board member a copy of all the responsibilities of 911 and the dispatchers. Edwards wanted the public know that there is more to 911 than just receiving emergency calls.
Randolph County Sheriff’s Department
House and manage warrants
Maintain a digital database in addition to hard copies
Enter and remove warrants into NCIC
Place Holds with other law enforcement agencies
Process annual purges directed by ALEA
Process monthly validations by physically verifying and/or making corrections
Execute real-time Hitt verifications when a subject or vehicle is run by law enforcement
Process extraditions
Monitor E-warrants listing for any that meet criteria to be entered into NCIC
Process requests for the county jail
Run criminal histories for employment
Check for warrants when a prisoner is set to be released
Send HITT requests when they show warrants in NCIC
Send documentation to jail for their records
Assist probations and protection orders
Maintain a database of Protection Orders
Monitor for and notify by PPAM message when a subject is stopped by law enforcement*Place Holds for violations
Manage checks on the sex offender registry and community corrections
This registry is run monthly to check for new warrants/violations
Provide the BRYX911 app
Dispatch texts began with 911 and the purchase of our CAD system in 2019. We now also provide the BRYX911 app-an alerting system which provides responders with alerts, messaging, and communication tools with every dispatch. In addition to providing this, we add/remove/maintain users and adjust filters for what call classifications are received.
Receive and dispatch alarms and monitor dispatch alarms and courthouse alarms
Our CAD system receives digital routing of data directly from alarm companies (such as ADT) which bypasses traditional phone calls that lead to delays in notifications and dispatch for panic buttons, residential, and commercial alarms
Provide criminal histories and reports for the National Crime Information CenterS

Collect and retain audio recordings of radio traffic and phone calls
Provided for court, investigations, and open record or media purposes
Ping and track lost or endangered wireless callers
At law enforcement’s request, we contact wireless carrier and initiate location information, which is updated in 15 minute intervals

Monthly reports/statistics are supplied for use in investigations, staffing, and allocation of resources and funding
On-demand reports as requested by law enforcement
Regular audits
The work we do and records we retain are audited by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency every 2 years.
The FBI will begin an additional audit in the near future that we will have to submit to also.

Assist with and contribute to ISO standards and reporting

Upon request, we contact wireless carrier and initiate location information to assist the Rescue Squad and offer updated location in 15-minute intervals, if available from carrier

We have now added an additional console for call taking and dispatching
Landing zone logistics
Totals have increased. FY2024 had 312 requests which often involved multiple changes to location and required updates to and from air ambulance services
Test pages and radio monitoring
Provide weekly and requested test pages
Monitor radio traffic for issues and initiate repairs
