Woodland girls stay unbeaten in area; boys pummeled by TCC
The Woodland Lady Bobcats completed a 4-game sweep of their area opponents Tuesday night. And perhaps more impressively, they did it in just five days.
Woodland put the finishing touches on a perfect first round of area play with an easy 48-31 win over Talledega County Central.
Courtney Strain continued her torrid scoring pace with 20 points and nine rebounds. In the Lady Bobcats’ past four wins Strain has averaged 24 points and nine boards while hitting 48 percent of her shots from the floor.
The streak began last Friday with a 54-47 win over RCHS followed by Saturday’s 56-54 win over Ranburne on Saturday. After on off day Sunday, it was right back into the fray as Strain scored 30 of Woodland’s 41 points in a 41-36 win over Lineville.
The streak puts Woodland alone atop their area and in control of their own destiny with four area games remaining.
Meghan Rollins added nine points for the Lady Bobcats, who improved to 7-5 overall with Tuesday’s win.
BOYS – TCC 75, Woodland 49
As hot as the girls have been, Woodland’s boys have been almost as cold. The trend continued as area front-runner TCC drilled the Bobcats 75-49. The loss was Woodland’s fourth in five games, interrupted only by Monday’s 52-32 win over Lineville.
Woodland’s Trae Strain was held to just nine points, almost 11 points below his seaon average. All of his points came from the free throw line as he failed to connect on al 10 of his field goal attempts.
Michael McCurdy led Woodland with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Bobcats fell to 4-7 with the loss and just 1-3 in the area.
