RCHS running back Hagan Bailey carries the ball in the Tigers' 28-14 win over LaFayette Friday. Bailey had 178 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns in the game.

J.D. Till’s kickoff return late in the third quarter put RCHS ahead and turned out to be the game-winning points in a 28-14 win over LaFayette Friday in Wedowee.

Till raced 85 yards to paydirt with 3:58 left in the quarter after LaFayette had taken a 14-12 lead moments earlier.

Till’s kick return was part of a solid 1-2 punch offensively for RCHS all night. Till ran for 170 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while backfield mate Hagan Bailey added 126 yards and a score on 13 runs. Bailey also caught two passes for 52 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown reception.

Till’s 35-yard touchdown run provided the only points for RCHS in the first half as the teams played to a 7-6 stalemate through the first two quarters.

The fireworks went off in the third quarter however, as the two teams combined to score four touchdowns in a span of less than four minutes of game time.

Bailey’s touchdown catch gave RCHS a brief 12-7 lead with 6:00 left in the quarter. But LaFayette answered with a 47-yard touchdown play that put them ahead 14-12 and set up Till’s kickoff return.

RCHS came up with a defensive stop, and Bailey capitalized on the ensuing possession with a 33-yard scoring run that put RCHS up 28-14 with just over two minutes left.

The touchdown pass was the first in the career of RCHS freshman quarterback Avion Willis, who completed 2-of-3 passes for 52 yards.

The win gives RCHS a 2-0 start to the season and puts them at 1-0 in region play.

RCHS will travel to Ranburne for a region contest against the Bulldogs Friday.
