Wadley moved to 2-0 in area play with an 8-4 win over Winterboro Thursday.

Katie Ward stole the show for the Lady Bulldogs at the plate and in the circle. Ward went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple and two RBI and also picked up the complete-game victory with 10-strikeout performance in which she allowed just two earned runs on five hits.

Katie Overton and Madison Gilliland had three hits apiece for Wadley, and Melody Jordan was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and two runs scored. Cailin Birdsong had one hit in three at-bats and drove home two.

The win puts Wadley at 2-4 overall and keeps them in first place in the area with four area games remaining.

Wadley’s next scheduled contest is Monday, April 1 at Valley.


In its last games before spring break Handley dropped a 6-3 decision at the hands of Beauregard last Tuesday then fell to Valley 9-2 on Wednesday. The Lady Tigers are now 3-12 on the season, but are 1-1 in area play with a loss to Cleburne County and win over Talladega.
