Wide turn

Wadley's Lakevian O'Neal looks back for the baseball after rounding second base in the Bulldogs' 5-2 win over Horseshoe Bend Friday.

Blaine Caldwell struck out 15 Horseshoe Bend batters, and Jacob Marable drove home two runs with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate as Wadley picked up its first win of the season, 5-2 over the Generals Friday in Wedowee.

Caldwell went the distance on the mound, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run without issuing a walk for his first win of the year.

Wadley held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, but the Bulldogs pushed two more runs across on an RBI single by Marable and a Justin Fulghum sacrifice fly. And that 5-2 advantage was plenty for Caldwell.

The starting pitcher also went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs out of the leadoff spot.
