Mrs. Pike was born June 11, 1936, in Malone, Ala., to Charles Homer and Dura Bailey Jackson. Dolly grew up in Wedowee in a family of 10 children and remained close to all her siblings over the years. A 1954 graduate of Handley High School in Roanoke, Dolly was president of the 4-H Club, a member of FHA and the student council. She loved sports and was a good athlete, playing basketball in high school and tennis and softball as an adult.
Dolly met her husband, Jasper "Sonny" Pike, while she was in high school, married and later moved to Marietta, Ga. Dolly was married to Sonny for 67 years and raised their four sons in Kennesaw. She was known for her independent spirit, resourcefulness and creativity. Their home was perfect for family events, her beloved horses, animals, beautiful garden and collection of antiques. In addition to her love of the outdoors, Dolly was also an avid reader, wonderful cook and creator of arts and crafts. She made beautiful quilts and pieces of art that will always be treasured by her children and grandchildren. She loved beach trips with her sisters and grandchildren and attending family athletic and special events.
_In addition to raising a family, Dolly worked for several companies and enjoyed her job as a postal carrier where she served for 20 years before retiring. While at the post office, she was loved by her co-workers and people on her mail route. At work, she was known to treat everyone like family with her kindness and generosity, sharing flowers, food, recipes and help whenever needed.
Dolly lived a wonderful, full life, and we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace and will forever be remembered by her friends and family. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Kathy Pike, Kenny and Sherri Pike, Keith and Judy Pike and Chris and Debbie Pike; sister, Judy Haun; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Louise Jackson; sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Jackson, Shirley Jackson, Jean Pike Stitt and Jackie Pike Howard; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
