(BREMEN, Ga.) Dan Allen Driskell, 78 of Bremen, Ga., passed away Friday, July 3, 2020.
Due to COVID occupancy restrictions, a private funeral service will be held with the Rev. Scott Hannah officiating. The funeral service will be recorded and posted online. A public graveside service will be Wednesday, July 8, at 12:30 p.m. CT at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Roanoke with the Rev. Terry Hudson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. ET. As a courtesy to the family, and for their protection, we ask that ALL visitors wear masks for the visitation. We encourage everyone to make the best decisions to remain safe. If anyone wishes to attend these gatherings, please remember to remain 6 feet apart from those not in your household.
Mr. Driskell was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Carroll County, Ga., son of the late John Irvin Driskell and Thelma Hendrix Driskell. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from BellSouth after having worked as a cable repair tech for more than 30 years. He was a member and deacon of Zion Baptist Church in Woodland, Ala. He was a one-of-a-kind carpenter and horse-trader. Dan was known by all for his generous smile. Work was his hobby and he could always be found in his garage or woodshop or working the land he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carole Giles Driskell of Bremen; children, Melody and Chris Chambers of Bremen, Melissa Pirkle and Miranda and Jeff Duston, all of Chincoteague Island, Va., and Meredith and Stephen Warner of Villa Rica, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Betty Jean Driskell of Rockmart, Ga., and John and Pat Driskell Jr. of Mableton, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Doug Gober of Hiram, Ga., Peggy Rogers and Debbie and Billy Crawford, all of Dallas, Ga.; mother-in-law, Frances Giles of Winston, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan Pirkle, Ethan and Savannah Pirkle, Dustin Pirkle, John Pirkle, Dakota Warner, Riley Warner, Vianne Warner, Nicolas and Ashley Chambers, Hannah Duston and Julia Duston; great-grandchildren, Maxximus Pirkle, Isabella Pirkle, Brock Pirkle and soon to be born, Thomley Chambers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Claude Driskell, Ruby Nell Renken, Thurman Driskell, Reba Smith, Bobby Driskell and Marie Driskell; son-in-law, Paul Pirkle; and granddaughter, Haley Duston.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Pirkle, Dustin Pirkle, John Pirkle, Hannah Duston, Dakota Warner and Riley Warner. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicolas Chambers and Ethan Pirkle.
