(BIRMINGHAM) A graveside service for Sallie Elizabeth McDonald Ussery, 81, of Birmingham, formerly of Roanoke, will be Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery with Bro. Wendell Ford officiating. The family requests anyone attending the service to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Ms. Ussery died Thursday, Jan. 14, in Birmingham.

A Roanoke native, Ms. Ussery was born Dec. 30, 1939, the daughter of Sterling Paine Jr. and Nellie Elizabeth White McDonald. She was a member of Kirkwood by the River Chapel and a homemaker.

Survivors include her two daughters, Elizabeth "Libby" Ussery Grubic (David D.) and Lydia Ussery Cowart (Ernie Sr.), both of Birmingham; son, Gordon "Bud" Ussery (Mary Douglas) of Birmingham; eight grandchildren; and brother, William White McDonald of Birmingham. Ms. Ussery was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Sterling Paine McDonald III and Allan Jefferson McDonald.

Pallbearers will be Justin Nagle, Tyler Nagle, Gordon Ussery, Hugh Cowart, Austin Trowell and Mac McDonald.
