(ROANOKE) The funeral for William Donald "Donnie" Perry, 76, of Roanoke will be Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Corinth Christian Church with the Rev. Ricky Cummings and the Rev. Tim Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Friday. Mr. Perry will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
Mr. Perry died Wednesday, Sept. 11, at University Hospital in Birmingham.
A Roanoke native, Mr. Perry was born June 6, 1943, the son of Truman S. Perry and Mildred Lane Perry. He was a central office technician and was employed by Roanoke Telephone Company for over 40 years. In his younger days, Mr. Perry enjoyed playing bass as a member of The Gospel Troubadours. Mr. Perry was a deacon at Corinth Christian Church, member of the Masonic Lodge and rescue squad, volunteer firefighter at Corinth and a Wadley Clinic board member.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Knight Perry of Roanoke; two daughters, Donna Weaver of Virginia and Toni Peaden (Matt) of Florida; two grandchildren, William "Bill" Denney and Kellye Quirk (Eric); two great-grandchildren, Mary Elsie Quirk and Annabelle Rose Quirk; and brother, John Lane Perry. Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Truman "Jimmy" Perry.
Pallbearers will be Scott Taylor, Lane Perry and the following men of Corinth Christian Church: Chad Mitchum, Shane Taylor, Roger Albright, Johnny Tennant, Walt Albright and Donald Caldwell.
