(ATHENS, Ala.) Helen R. Traylor, 81, of Athens, formerly of Randolph County, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at her residence after a well-fought battle with an extended illness.

There are no services at this time as the family has chosen to remember her privately.

Mrs. Traylor was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Escambia County to S.N. Reaves and Dessie Butler Reaves. She was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense at Redstone Arsenal as a financial manager for over 30 years. Mrs. Traylor worked diligently to become an esteemed member of the American Society of Military Controllers. She was also a member of the Army Acquisition Corps. Mrs. Traylor traveled the world as a vital part of our country's team of financial experts. She was example of a gentile Southern lady with a sharp mind and loving heart. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She will leave a huge hole in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harvey Traylor; son, Bill Traylor; sister-in-law, Judy Holloway (Gary); brother-in-law, Joe Bob Traylor (Deborah); four nieces, two nephews, one great-niece and five great-nephews.

Donations may be made to Randolph County Animals Shelter in honor of her love of animals or to Annie L. Awbrey Public Library due to her love for learning and books.
