(LAKEVIEW) George M. Braswell, 88, died Thursday, May 30, 2019, at East Alabama Medical Center after a brief bout with pneumonia.

A memorial service will be Saturday, June 8, at Lanier Baptist Church in the Lakeview community with visitation at 1 p.m. EDT, followed by the service at 2 p.m. EDT with Pastor Mike Hawkins officiating and nephew Robert Crutchfield eulogizing.

Mr. George was born on Dec. 14, 1930. He was married to Mary Faye Carter Braswell until her death in 1989. Mr. George was a Korean War veteran, serving in the army as a medic. He worked for West Point Foundry and Machine Company for 41 years. He was also a founding member and president of Lakeview Fire Department, where he remained a member until 2012. He was a member of Lanier Baptist Church, serving in several capacities, including longtime deacon. Before being confined to a wheelchair in 2011 and when he was younger, Mr. George enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, church and his Sunday school class.

He is survived by his son, Ricky Braswell (Rita); sister-in-law, Bobbie Crutchfield (L.M.) of Augusta, Ga.; three granddaughters; three grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
