(ROCK MILLS) The funeral for the Rev. Franklin D. Foster Sr., 88, of Rock Mills will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Frank Foster Jr., Bro. Rusty Guizar and Dr. Byron Shortinghouse officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Rev. Foster will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Rev. Foster passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan, Ga.

A Randolph County native, Rev. Foster was born June 1, 1933, the son of Wilner Eugene and Mary Frances Crowder Foster. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam conflict with 20 years of service and had a bachelor's degree in education from Auburn and taught electronics at Randolph County Vocational School for 18 years. Rev. Foster was a member of Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene, where he was pastor for 16 years, and he also served as pastor at Roanoke Church of the Nazarene for five years. He was lovingly called "Big Daddy" by his family and loved fishing and catching reds.

Survivors include his two daughters, Vickie Foster Vollenweider (David) of Roanoke and Pam Hay (Dale) of Wadley; two sons, Franklin D. Foster Jr. (Sherry) and Dwayne Foster (Cheryl), both of Roanoke; honorary daughter, Ronda Whitaker; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Green (Charlie), Trae Foster (Laura), Ashley Johnson (Brian), Andrew Vollenweider (Kasey), Katie Reed (AJ), Keishia Foster (Micah), Cody Foster (Haley), Stephen Hay, Nichole Bennett (Brandon) and Whitney Hay (Austin); 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Joyce Hicks of Rock Mills. Rev. Foster was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Joann Foster; and brother, Lamar Foster.

Pallbearers will be Trae Foster, Stephen Hay, Andrew Vollenweider, Cody Foster, John Glass and Gary Gillespie. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Guizar, Harold Whitaker, Clark Windsor and Shad Brown.
