(ROANOKE) Eddie Ben Baker, 91, of Roanoke died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at home surrounded by family.
Viewing will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Clark Memorial Funeral Service.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at Wehadkee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was born in Roanoke on Feb. 22, 1929, to Jack Baker and Susie Ware Baker. A lifelong member of Wehadkee Baptist Church, he served as a member of the deacon and laymen's boards. He married Lavada Gates on March 5, 1949. She preceded him in death Aug. 23, 1996. He worked on pipelines, at Handley Mills and at Amoco.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Baker of Lanett; three daughters, Lizzie Gregg, Margaret Grady and Deborah Chislom, all of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, Michelle Joiner (George) of LaGrange, Ga., Tracy Banks of Saginaw, Mich., Vanessa Baker of Northport, Mark Baker of Lineville, Michael Grady, Kristie Digby, Tasha Baker and Raven Chislom, all of Roanoke, Tiffany Chislom of Lithonia, Ga., and Tarail Grady (Tiesha) of Opelika; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ora Bell Bailey, Ora Lee Chatman and Georgia Lizzie Holliman; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, most of his siblings, and his eldest son, Eddie Robert.
