(FRANKLING, Ga.) Burla Mae Cavender Pope, 95, a resident of Traylor Nursing Home, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at Clay County Hospital due to complications from COVID-19.

She was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Heard County, Ga., to the late Ridley B. and Alma Sheets Cavender. She was a Christian by faith. She worked for Whittenbaum Manufacturing in the knitting room before her retirement. Her favorite times were spent cooking a big spread at home for the family. She was especially famous for her buttermilk biscuits. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, James Pope (Susan) of Five Points; four grandchildren, Wes Pope, Susanne Barfield (Jason), Brad Pope (Dakon) and Scott Pope (Carrie); five great-grandchildren, Madison Barfield, Cilicia Barfield, Logan Barfield, Colton Pope and a Baby Boy Pope due later this year; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Pope.

She was laid to rest beside her husband in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin, Ga. A memorial service will be held on a later date.
