Ms. Allen was born in Birmingham on April 14, 1958, to the late Willie Jackson and Barbara Gene Bennett Daniel. She graduated from Birmingham's A.H. Parker High School in 1977 and attended Booker T. Washington Business College. She married Stafford Allen of Roanoke. She was known for her beautiful hair braiding skills, her peanut brittle candy-making and for being a huge Auburn fan. Laverne was confronted with multiple challenges, but she met those challenges with all the ferocity of a mama lion caring for her cubs.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Allen of Columbus, Ga.; sons, Stafford Morelle Allen and Carlos Maurice Allen of Roanoke; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Smith and Debra Williams, both of Birmingham; former husband, Stafford Allen of Roanoke; other relatives and friends.
