(WEDOWEE) A memorial service for Robert W. "Buck" Pettitt Sr., 87, of Wedowee will be Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Little officiating.

Mr. Pettitt passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, at his home.

A Rossville, Ga., native, Mr. Pettitt was born Aug. 27, 1934, the son of William Robert and Ruth Walker Pettitt. During Mr. Pettitt's 24-year military career, he served two tours in Vietnam and Korea. As an Army aviator, he received numerous awards and citations of valor, including the Vietnam Service Medal with seven Bronze Stars and Legion of Merit. Mr. Pettitt's sons and two grandsons have served and continue to serve in various branches of the military. He was a pilot for Anniston Army Depot as an Army civilian and also flew for L.E. Bell. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee, an active member of the Calhoun County YMCA for 40 years and a Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jacquelyn Pettitt of Wedowee; daughter, Cynthia Bailey (Earl Bouse) of Cleveland, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jessica Cummings (Darren) and J.W. "Joe" Bailey (Jennifer), both of Munford; four great-grandchildren, Bailey and Kaylee Cummings and Ethan and Brie Bailey; son, Robert W. Pettitt Jr. and friend Fred Gramoso of Satellite Beach, Fla.; grandson, Jeffery Pettitt of Charleston, S.C.; son, Ricky Pettitt (Noreen) of Oxford; grandson, James Pettitt of Oxford; son, Rodger Pettitt (Tina) of Hamilton, Ga.; and sister, Mary Ruth Allen of Cos Cob, Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Benjamin Carroll Pettitt; and sister, Katherine Elizabeth Pettitt.
