(HOBSON CITY) The homegoing service for Mary J. Todd Smith, 86, of Hobson City was at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at the FEMA Building in Hobson City with the Rev. Anthony Chapman officiating. Interment followed in Hobson City Memorial Cemetery.
She died Sunday, Oct. 25, at home.
Mrs. Smith was born to Henrietta Shealey on April 25, 1934, in Randolph County. She was a graduate of Randolph County Training School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke. After moving to Hobson City, she joined Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist. She served in the choir, as a pastor's aide, in the Missionary Society, in the Nurses' Guild and as church clerk. She was a faithful member of Anniston Ministers' Wives and Hobson City Senior Citizens. She retired from CM Offray (Classic Ribbon) after 31 years of service.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Towns (John) and Wanda Cunningham; stepdaughter, Ameena Abdul-Malik; five sons, Larry Todd (Jackie), Darryl Todd, Roger Smith (Rhonda), Melvin Smith (Bridgett) and Harold Smith; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John D. Smith; great-grandchild, Maurice Ware Jr.; two sisters, Melma Adams and Georgia Ann Coats; two brothers, Alfred Hill and John H. Whittaker.
