(WEDOWEE) The funeral for Ben Harvey Avery, 81, of Wedowee will be Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Geter officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday before services begin.

Mr. Avery passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Avery was born Jan. 24, 1941, the son of Ben Robert and Lois Virginia Mapp Avery. He served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from Sony Music and Southwire. Mr. Avery loved hunting, fishing and football in the South - "Roll Tide" and "Go Dawgs." He enjoyed canning, family gatherings and good food. Anyone who spent any time with him loved to listen to the many stories he shared of life, love and mischief. Mr. Avery dearly loved to be with family and friends around a table of food anytime, holidays, weekends and game days. He never met a child that did not bring him great joy.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Avery of Wedowee; children, Lisa Fleenor (Bob) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Fran Avery of Roopville, Ga., Robert Avery of Carrollton, Ga., Kevin Avery (Jeannie) of Bremen, Ga., Terrie Jett (Charles) of Roanoke and Dianne Chambers (Brian) of Franklin, Ga.; grandchildren, Brandon Fleenor (Cara), Erin Birk (Luke), Brooklyn and Haley Avery, Kyle Jett (Jackie), Cory Jett, Arianna Bender (Nash), Sierra Hutchison, Dakota Stafford (Shaia) and Makayla Hutchison; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends. He was a "bonus" dad to Steven Hutchinson (Roxanne), Stacey Sampsel (Andy), Tiffany Middleton and Ryan McIntyre (William). Mr. Avery was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bobby Avery (Sue), Charles Avery (Nancy) and Maxine Dunmire (David); "bonus" son, Larry Middleton; and beloved dog, Ozark Singing Penny.

Pallbearers will be Charles Jett, Kyle Jett, Cory Jett, Kevin Avery, Kyle Jett Jr. and Liam Jett.
