Mrs. Battle was born in Tallapoosa County on Feb. 19, 1953, to the late Ananias and Ethel Lee Buchanan. She was a lifelong member of Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church, where she served on the Usher Board. She attended Zana Training School in Daviston and graduated from New Site High School. As a young lady, Clemis enjoyed playing girls' softball. She and her sisters delivered astounding gospel vocals all over the area. One of the most devastating events of Clemis' life was losing her son, Terrence Wilkes, a promising young athlete, who was struck down by a drive-by assassin's bullet. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ananias Jr., John David, Curtis and Travis.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Dennis Bledsoe of Wadley; sons, Dennis Buchanan, E. Paul Wilkes (Nikki) and Dontavious Heard, all of Wadley; daughter, Kim Buchanan of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; brother, Joe Buchanan of Birmingham; and sisters, Alice Lewis of Daviston, Mattie Staples and Mary Staples, both of Wadley, and Ruby Dean Buchanan of Birmingham.
