A graveside service for Gwendolyn Butler Williams, 70, was Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. EST at Mizpah Baptist Church Cemetery in Baxley, Ga.
Gwendolyn died Saturday, Nov. 7, at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mrs. Williams was born to the late Eulee Bridges and Geneva Butler on April 12, 1950, in Baxley. She was also raised by the late Mose Butler Sr. She was educated in the Appling County School System. She joined St. Paul Baptist Church in LaGrange, where she was a deaconess, pianist and member of the choir and kitchen ministry. She worked in retail for over 30 years, managing Bill's Dollar Store, Walmart and McDonald's. She volunteered at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. She was married to the late James Edward Williams Sr. for 42 years. You could always get a good meal or cake at Moma Gwen's home. She enjoyed singing, fishing and shopping at thrift stores.
She is survived by three daughters, Wendy Brunson (Chuck) of Tuskegee, Wilma Williams of Roanoke and Wanda Gadsden (Charles) of Petersburg, Va.; son, James Williams Jr. of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Donnie Butler, Alnorris Butler and Dale Butler, all of Baxley, and Phil Butler of Vidalia, Ga.; sisters, Deloris Harris of Orlando, Fla., Susan Sampson of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Jackie Davis and Caroline Watts, both of Baxley; other relatives and friends.
