(ATLANTA) Joe Lewis Houston, 79, formerly of Atlanta, died Sunday evening, June 9, 2019 at Legacy Transitional Care and Rehab in Atlanta.

The memorial service was Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William Crawford officiating.

Mr. Houston was born May 5, 1940, in Randolph County to the late Charlie and Goldie Wright Houston. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in the Broughton community. After more than 30 years, Joe retired from C.L. Cook Construction Company in Atlanta, where he had worked as a heavy equipment operator and carpenter.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jeanette Houston Watts (Curtis) and Lillie Bailey, both of Wedowee, and Joanne Houston of Atlanta; four sons, Joe Lewis Houston Jr. (Sandra) and Donald Wayne Houston (Nellie), both of Wedowee, and Crushun and Joseph Houston, both of Atlanta; three sisters, Mary Joyce Houston, Joann Strickland and Lovie Jean Morgan; brother, Fred Junior Houston; ten grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; several in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine Stone Houston; three brothers, James, John Robert and Charlie William Houston; and two sisters, Maggie Roundtree and Lou Nora Hunter.
