(PELL CITY) Guy Samuel Sellers, 102, died Friday, July 3, 2020, at Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City.
Graveside services were Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Wedowee.
Born Feb. 28, 1918, Guy was raised in Randolph County. He married Hazel Ramsay on Feb. 2, 1943. Guy participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). A member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he served on the island of Sipan. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in Mobile after 21 years of service, including two tours in Japan. He also retired from Civil Service at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. He enjoyed daily exercising and walking, as well as cooking, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Vassar Lindley Sellers of Oxford; two sons, David (Therese) of St. Peters, Mo., and Gary (Charlotte) of Choctaw, Okla.; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; stepdaughter, Dale O'Dell (Tom) of Oxford; step-daughter-in-law, Linda Cockrell of Oxford; sister, Ruby Duke (James) of Lineville; niece, Pam Ruppel of Lineville; nephew, Richard Duke of Birmingham; and other family. Guy was preceded in death by his parents, David and Martha Mize Sellers; brothers, Leon and Leo; sister, Lilly Sellers Baker; and first wife of 53 years, Hazel Ramsay Sellers of Choctaw.
