(FREDONIA) Retired Col. Gary Randolph Perry, Chaplain, USAF, died Aug. 19, 2021.

The funeral was Sunday, Aug. 22, at Fredonia United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

He was born in Roanoke on Nov. 27, 1946. Gary entered the ministry in 1976 after eight years of enlisted time in the USAF. He was a 1977 graduate of Troy State University and 1979 graduate of Emory University's Candler School of Theology. He was ordained in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. Gary was commissioned as a chaplain in the USAF. After more than 33 years of total service, he retired from the USAF and then retired from the Alabama-West Florida Conference in 2009. He and Brenda returned to their home in Fredonia. Gary served as president of Fredonia Community Club and councilman of Fredonia Town Council. Gary pastored Watoola UMC, Opelika, from 2013 until 2021 and recently Fredonia UMC and Chapel Hill UMC in White Plains.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Brenda Sue Daniel of Fredonia; two daughters, Kimberly P. Beverage (Tommy) and Tracy P. Smith (Dennis); five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, John Thomas Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha Ellen Williamson Perry; and three siblings, Rebecca Perry Simpson, James Perry and Cooper Perry.
