(WEST POINT, Ga.) John Winston "Winfred" Strong, 92, of West Point, Ga., died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at his residence.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. EDT at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Marseilles Cemetery. The Rev. Howard Longshore and the Rev. Larry Cummins will officiate.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. EDT at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
He was born on April 2, 1927, in Malone. Mr. Strong was an active member of Davidson Baptist Church in West Point, where he served as a deacon and enjoyed helping others. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed farming. He loved and enjoyed his family.
Mr. Strong is survived by his children, Linda Faye Duncan (Lynn), Larry Winston Strong (Ginger) and Jerry Wayne Strong (Glenda); sister, Leona Strong Lake; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Nellie Ruth Messer Strong; daughter, Shelia J. Spires; grandson, Larry Scott "Scottie" Strong; father, Leon Strong; mother, Lillie Knight Strong; sisters, Catherine Smith, Ruthie Hamlett, Alvie Mae Lake, Pearl Oliver and Annie O'Dean Hayes; and brother, Andrew Earl Strong.
