(MORRISON'S CROSSROADS) The funeral for Byrd Stewart, 103, of Morrison's Crossroads will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Halsey officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.

Mr. Stewart died peacefully Saturday, Oct. 5, at his residence.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Stewart was born Nov. 20, 1915, the son of William Newton and Anna McLeod Stewart. He attended the Alabama School of Trades, now known as Gadsden State. Mr. Stewart was in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country in World War II. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, and he and his wife served the community as owners/operators of Stewart's General Merchandise for over 40 years. Mr. Stewart also retired from Anniston Army Depot. He was also a registered Black Angus cattle farmer. Mr. Stewart lived his life in service to his family, church, community and country.

Survivors include his two daughters, Peggy Bullard (David) of Birmingham and Polly Goodwin (Bill) of Aliceville; three grandchildren, Brandy Huey (Derrick), Brooke Corlett (Jack) and Will Goodwin (Ashley); five great-grandchildren, Sammy Huey, Joshua Corlett, Noah Corlett, Emma Lockhart and Carter Lockhart; and sister-in-law, Betty Nelson Stewart. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years, Fairy Morrison Stewart, eight brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Stewart's nephews, J.W. Stewart, Billy Stewart, Jack Simpson, John Simpson, David Stewart, Phil Stewart, Eddie Stewart, Jeff Stewart, Joe Stewart, Doug Wilson, Frankie Stewart, Gene Stewart and Wayne Stewart.

The family gives special thanks to caregivers, as well as Alabama Hospice.
