(ROANOKE) Jefferson Tyrone McClendon, 61, of Nook Street, Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee.
A graveside service will be Thursday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. at East Roanoke Cemetery.
Mr. McClendon was born June 3, 1960, in Randolph County to the late John and Dora Harris McClendon. For more than 40 years, Jefferson worked in the lumber industry. For most of that time, he worked for Don Gay Lumber Company where he became skillful in driving logging trucks and operating heavy equipment. One of the greatest joys of his life was playing with his grandkids. He also loved the beach, fishing and barbecuing. While living in Auburn, Jefferson became a zealous Auburn football fan. He was also an active member of the Early Star Lodge #395 (Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F&AM, Jurisdiction of Alabama) in Opelika.
He is survived by his children, Mark Anthony McClendon of Gadsden, Crystal Hawkins (Billy) of Roanoke and Kim McClendon of Oxford; nine grandchildren; great-grandchild; brother, James Edward Spratling of Birmingham; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Stevenson McClendon; son, Lamont Stevenson; brother, Melvin Harris; and special friend, Drusilla Diane Bell Goggins.
