(WEDOWEE) James 'Jim' Chappell Jr., 83, of Wedowee died Thursday, March 19, 2020.
Viewing will be Monday, March 23, from 1 to 6 p.m.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Zion Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Wedowee with the Rev. William Phillips officiating. Viewing will be at graveside from 10 to 11 a.m.
James "Jim" Chappell Jr. was born in Wedowee on Nov. 7, 1936, to the late James "Jim" Chappell Sr. and Bernice Robertson Chappell. He was a member of Zion Rest Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He lived in Atlanta for 48 years, where he worked for Mead Paper Company as a paper cutter and General Tire & Rubber Company as a forklift driver. He moved back to Wedowee in 2004. He loved yardwork, music and his 1999 Dodge Ram truck. He enjoyed watching Western TV shows. He had a fondness for mutts.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Josephine Baker Chappell of Wedowee; daughter, Vikki Holloway (Randolph) of Stockbridge, Ga.; granddaughter, Simone E. Leonard (Jessie) of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Mable Louise Smith and Shirley Izora Sims, both of Wedowee, Katie Ruth Hendricks of Roanoke and Barbara Ann Summerville of Lithonia, Ga.; other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stanley Joe Chappell; siblings, Gracie Marie Joiner, Curtis Mae Green and an infant sister, Jimmie Lee Chappell.
